ATLANTA, Ga. —The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Volleyball Players of the Week for the sixth installment of the 2013 SIAC Volleyball Season as voted by the SIAC Sports Information Directors Association, and Benedict College took three of the four weekly awards.
Three Benedict College Lady Tigers earned weekly awards after leading their team to a 2-0 record last week in SIAC competition.
Lady Tigers junior outside hitter Terae Sweeting is the SIAC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Lady Tigers to a five-set victory over Claflin University and Paine College last week. Sweeting's teammates, sophomore libero Je'Nae Saunders and senior setter Ashley Jackson were named SIAC Defensive Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively.
Newcomer of the Week was awarded to Paine College freshman Deja Sims-Dean.
Sweeting, a junior from Nassau, Bahamas, had 12 kills in a five-set victory over Claflin University. In her second match of the week against Paine, she had 13 kills in a straight-set victory over Paine College. The Lady Tigers are currently in first place in the SIAC East Division. Sweeting earns the conference award for the second time this season.
Saunders, a sophomore libero from Nassau, Bahamas, recorded 15 digs and five service aces in a five-set win over Claflin. In Benedict's win over Paine, she recorded a team high 15 digs.
Jackson, a senior from Dacula, Ga., had 47 assists on (54 team kills) in Benedict's five-set victory over Claflin University. She also had nine digs and four kills in the match. In the sweep over Paine, Jackson had 26 assists on 34 team kills, 13 digs and four service aces.
