COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Lady Tigers scored a season-high 108 points to take a 108-92 victory over North Greenville University in a non-conference basketball game Tuesday night in the Benjamin E. Mays HRC Arena.
Freshman
Raven Baker had a season-high 20 points and seven assists, as the Lady Tigers had four players score 20 or more points.
MiKeisha Moore led the way with 25 points, while
Destiny Betts had a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
Shirvel Luke matched her career-high with 22 points.
Benedict improves to 6-5 overall on the season. North Greenville falls to 3-7.
North Greenville jumped out to an early 30-18 lead at the end of the first quarter, as North Greenville's defensive pressure forced 12 Benedict turnovers in the first 10 minutes of play. The Lady Crusaders had a 49-36 lead with a minute and a half left in the first half before the Lady Tigers scored the final nine points of the half to cut the lead to 49-45 at the break.
Benedict took its first lead since the opening minutes of the game on a pair of free throws by
Essence Stinnette with 7:50 left in the third quarter. Benedict took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Baker with 1:42 left in the third quarter, 70-67. The Lady Tigers carried a 79-73 lead into the fourth quarter.
An 11-0 run by Benedict in the fourth quarter gave the Lady Tigers a 96-80 lead after a jumper by Moore with 3:48 left to play.
Benedict dominated the boards, outrebounding North Greenville 59-28, including 24-11 on the offensive end. Benedict had 31 second-chance points, compared to 10 for North Greenville. North Greenville forced a season-high 31 turnovers by Benedict, and converted those into 32 points.
The Lady Tigers travel to Boca Raton, Fla., to compete in the Lynn University Women's Basketball Holiday Classic. Benedict will face Saint Leo on Saturday at noon before taking on Lynn at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
