COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers shot 50 percent from the floor and made 16 3-pointers to defeat Lane College 87-71 on Saturday night in the Bejamin E. Mays HRC Arena in their conference opener.
The Tigers remain unbeaten on the season, improving to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the SIAC. Lane falls to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the SIAC.
Benedict placed three players in double figures, led by
Gob Gabriel with 18 points, hitting five 3-pointers.
Calvin McCutcheon added 16 points and
Asanti Price chipped in with 11 points.
The Tigers jumped out to a quick 14-3 lead and never looked back. Benedict led by as many as 29 points, 39-10, in the first half, and held a 48-25 lead at the half. Benedict had a double-digit lead the rest of the way. Lane closed the gap to 61-50 in the second half, but couldn't get any closer as the Tigers went on a 15-6 run to push the lead back to 20 points.
The Tigers take on LeMoyne-Owen on Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
