Dennis Switzer

Dennis Switzer has been named Senior Director of Athletic Communications and Social Media. He has served as Benedict College’s Sports Information Director for 10 years, and was Assistant Sports Information Director for one year.
 
During his time at Benedict, Switzer also served as Interim Director of Compliance for two years.

As Senior Director of Athletic Communications and Social Media, he will oversee all aspects of athletic communications and social media for the athletic department. He is responsible for all media relations for the athletic department. He maintains the athletic website, writes game stories and press releases, takes photos and compiles statistics and monitors and updates the athletic department’s social media accounts.

During his time at Benedict, Switzer has been recognized as the Employee of the Year for the Benedict Athletic Department, as well as Outstanding Support Staff Member of the Year for the entire college for the 2013-14 school year. He was recognized with a "Best of BC" award for exceptional service and loyalty in October, 2017.

Switzer joined Benedict College in August, 2011 as Assistant Sports Information Director. He was promoted to Sports Information Director in 2012.

Switzer came to Benedict after serving as Director of Sports Administration and Information at the South Atlantic Conference for 11 years. With the South Atlantic Conference, he was responsible for press releases and media relations efforts for the 10-member NCAA Division II conference. He also was responsible for website updates, publications as well as conference championship event planning and administration.

Switzer’s conference publications received several honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). In 2011, his football media guide received a best in the nation honor, while his basketball media guide was voted second in the nation. His 2008-09 basketball guide was voted best in the nation and his 2002 football media guide was voted second in the nation. He has won best cover designs for his 2004-05 and 2008-09 basketball media guides.

He served as the national coordinator for the CoSIDA writing contest for four years and received two writing awards.

Prior to the South Atlantic Conference, Switzer was a sports writer for 15 years with The Herald in Rock Hill. During his time at The Herald, he was the paper’s beat writer for the Charlotte Hornets and won a pair of awards from the South Carolina Press Association.

A native of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Switzer is a 1984 graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

Switzer and his wife, Nancy, have two daughters, Lauren and Krista. They reside in Rock Hill.
