Josh Crutchfield joined the Benedict College men's basketball coaching staff in 2025 as assistant coach.
 
Crutchfield comes to the Tigers after serving the last two seasons on the staff of Southern Methodist University. Crutchfield was a Graduate Assistant with the Mustangs, who went 24-11 overall and advanced to the second round of the National Invitational Tournament. SMU went 20-13 during the 2023-24 season and also advanced to the National Invitational Tournament.
 
At SMU, he was responsible for breaking down and studying opposing team defenses and schemes to help assistant coaches with game planning; monitoring team offensive and defensive points per possession for every game; and leading individual and group skill development workouts to improve player performance.
 
Prior to his two-year stint at SMU, he spent two seasons (2021-23) at Greenville University as a Graduate Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach, helping the Panthers lead NCAA Division III in scoring both seasons (110.2 in 2021-22 and 101.3 in 2022-23). His responsibilities included recruiting coordinator, player development, scouting reports and travel coordinator. He was also an Adjunct Instructor at Greenville during this time, working alongside the Dean of Experiential Learning to develop curriculum for first year/transfer students.

He played basketball for four years, and was a two-year starter, at Gordon College (2017-2021). He shot 40 percent on 3-pointers for his career and was the Commonwealth Coast Conference leader in 2019-20 at 43.3 percent.

Crutchfield has a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Sport & Wellness from Gordon (May 2021) and a Master of Education in Coaching from Greenville (May 2023). He also earned a master's degree in the Sports Management program from Southern Methodist University.
